Onyria employees run 260km to raise funds for colleague and national charity

Onyria Running Challenge, a solidarity race that was born within the Onyria Group to help raise funds for one of its employees that was suffering with leukemia, is now on its 3rd edition.

This is not a typical competition ... It all started in 2014 when Rafael, an Onyria Group employee aged 22 at the time, was faced with a serious health problem, leukemia. Just like family, everyone at Onyria Group promptly stepped up to help out a fellow worker and the best solution encountered was to hold a run to collect funds to help Rafa - as he is known among friends - and his family to overcome the high cost of the treatment. The event was such a success that, in addition to supporting his employee, the Onyria Group even managed to financially support the Portuguese Association Against Leukemia (APCL). The result: Rafael is in good health and we've managed to contribute to the construction of the “Casa Porto Seguro” for the APCL . The staff at the Onyria Group feels more and more proud of this achievement!
The Casa Porto Seguro (Safe Haven House), is a project that aims to build a house for the relatives of blood-cancer patients, undergoing treatment at the IPO of Lisbon, to live in during the admissions of their relatives. Currently, family members and patients, for economic difficulties, are often sleeping on the street, in cars or elsewhere. APCL wants to avoid these undignified situations.

Onyria Group General Director of Operations, Paulo Figueiredo, said: "Combining sports with social causes is the best way to have a real impact on society. From the first minute we were engaged in a greater cause, helping Rafa, one of our colleagues who was diagnosed with leukemia. This year, like last year, we will again run for APCL’s Casa Porto Seguro Project but also to shed light to the important role of this Association, which experiences both the patient ordeals as well as their relatives."
For the two previous editions of Onyria’s Running Challenge, we had about 1.000 participants and this year our goal is to exceed this number in order to properly help this noble cause.
